The 25th J. & P. Conference for England and Wales
was held at the Hayes Centre, Swanwick from the 16th to the 18th July 2003.
I have the above reflection on tape. Attached is the list of the conference speakers and a photocopy of the addresses of those participating in the conference that forms the commission of Justice and Peace in your area.
Scale up for trade Trade Justice
Cafod, Christian Aid, Sciaf and other organizations are promoting this campaign with significant success. Thousand of people raised their concern at constituency meetings with every M.P. in the U.K. between noon and noon on 27-28 June 2003. Attached is the sample letter to send to your M.P. before the next WTO meeting in Cancun (Mexico), I am also sending a list of key terms and acronyms explained and the WTO briefing from Sciaf.

Immigration
You may recall how in the last number of Stand-uP I sent you 3 questions on the immigrants. In here you will find a photocopy from the newspaper ‘The Independent’ with the latest figures.
"At the heart of the system: mass media and ecology. What mission?"
Fr. Alex Zanotelli's reflection: it is the latest contribution from one of the most well known among us. Fr. Alex has prepared a synthesis of his analysis of the present situation from the missionary perspective, addressing issues like: the empire of money, the military industrial complex, mass-media, consumerism and materialism, how to kill the earth; yet among so many shadows is the light of the missionary announcing God’s great dream. It can be, in my opinion, a good tool for community reflections during a family council. Although you may have received it already by e-mail, I thought to do well to send it to you in a paper format. Our province has translated the text into English, appraisals have reached me so I extend them to those who have done the job.
The protest of the chains" a chronicle of events at Castelvolturno
You may well be aware or not that it takes courage to be disobedient, challenging the institutions by questioning the lawfulness of some act taken by the parliament but that did not matter to our confreres Fr. Giorgio Poletti and Fr. Franco Nascimbene of our Comboni community near Naples entrusted with the pastoral care of the immigrants (among whom many Nigerian women forced into prostitution). I have been recording the events through the local press and I hope to have translated the articles into an English that you can follow, despite some Italianism. I am sending you also the original version in Italian, just in case you wish to know it all! Anyway it is good to have something to read under the sun umbrella…
