What is Fair Trade ?
Fair Trade is an alternative approach to conventional international trade. It is a partnership which aims at sustainable development for excluded and disadvantaged producers. It seeks to do this by providing better trading conditions, by awareness raising and by campaigning.

Choose Fair Trade
Choose fairtrade in the shop. The fairtrade mark is your independent guarantee that the producers in developing countries receive a fair deal. Subscribe to the free newsletter "Fair Comment" and visit the website: www.fairtrade.org.uk

Textiles
Our clothes and textiles are frequently produced in deplorable working conditions in the South, to where multinational businesses have shifted their manufacturing to benefit from cheap, non-unionised labour. Well known brands have been linked to poor wages, child labour, compulsory overtime and sexual harassment.

Incense
Incense has been used to fragrance surroundings for thousands of years. The main ingredients of incense are spices, wood powders, resins and charcoal, and the best contains natural essential oils, non synthetics. However incense is frequently produced using synthetic materials, and in working conditions which are very far from satisfactory with poor rates of pay and terms of payments.

Hand made paper
A huge amount of energy is used in converting wood pulp to paper, and we pollute the atmosphere with the dioxins used in bleaching these products. Because almost any plant with long fibres in its leaves or stems can be used to make paper, plants which were once considered to be weeds, or just to have no use, can now be harvested to produce beautiful hand made products. This does not damage the environment ad the paper production uses little energy, as most stages are done by hand.

Food for the Journey
Produced by Cafod and divided in eight stages in the format of a pilgrimage-like liturgy lasting approximately one hour. "A pilgrimage is a journey with a purpose, through which we move closer to God. It is also a time to grow in self-knowledge, and awareness of other's needs". This definition helps us to link our being religious, our prayer, to a world that we serve as missionaries and help to make whole again.
