A Feminist Haggadah
In every generation, Ten Modern Plagues of society can be found:
Blood: The blood resulting from violence in our cities; the blood of victims of war that plague humankind.
Frogs: The incurable diseases that leap from person to person before a treatment is found.
Lice: The filth and degradation that the homeless are forced to live in.
Beasts: Our beast-like behaviour. The physical and emotional violence we inflict on one another. The pattern of domestic abuse destroying many family units.
Cattle disease: The pestilence of chemicals which affects our food supply... damaging our ability to bear and rear healthy children.
Boils: The pain of substance abuse to our bodies and minds.
Hail: The hazard of toxic substances that pollute the air and water and poison the earth.
Locusts: The pervasive ignorance and hate that promotes prejudice and xenophobia.
The ignorance resulting in anti-Semitism towards Jews in the world.
Darkness: The darkness of depression and despair that threatens us.
Death of the first born: The countless babies who die each year from AIDS and drug addiction. The death of a child's spirit who does not grow up in a loving home.
