Our Response
We are all human beings and therefore vulnerable. Having witnessed the reliance and tenacity of suffering people: I see hope, love, sharing, selflessness.
The whole notion of suffering and of seeing the strength of people should lead us to believe that the bottom line to deal with this decease is anyone level of capacity or incapacity: it is a question of holding hands to meet the unmet needs of others with work of charity. Without commitment we cannot win the fight against AIDS.
Unless you are a committed person you won't give an human face to many living with HIV and AIDS and all who face a life-threatening illnesses. We read in the Gospel how Jesus sent the cleansed leper off to the priest. He expected the priest to welcome, accept and stand in faith-full solidarity with the man. Jesus calls us and all people of faith to demonstrate the same solidarity in word and deed.
The challenge is: as we follow in the footstep of the Crucified and Risen Lord, exactly how much do we love our HIV + brothers and sisters?
